How much cash should you 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 take on vacation? Because carrying $2,000 in cash “just in case” probably isn't the move. 💵 ✈️
If you're traveling somewhere that's card friendly, a good rule of thumb is to carry about $200–$500 in cash for emergencies and keep it split up in different places.
But before you decide on an amount, check: 💳 Whether cards are widely accepted 🏧 ATM availability and fees 💱 Foreign transaction fees and exchange rates 💵 Whether tipping is usually done in cash 🚕 Whether you'll need cash for taxis, transfers or small purchases
And don't forget to bring two cards, if possible. If one gets lost, blocked or simply decides to stop working on vacation... you'll have a backup.
The amount of cash you need really depends on where you're going and how you travel. Do a little research before you go so you're prepared without carrying your entire bank account in your purse.
Yep. More than 33 million American workers currently have no access to paid vacation time.
A new bill called the Protected Time Off (PTO) Act would change that by guaranteeing paid vacation time for eligible workers.
Under the bill, workers would earn 1 hour of paid vacation for every 25 hours worked, up to at least 2 weeks of paid vacation each year. 🏖️✈️
And no, this wouldn’t replace sick leave or family and medical leave. It’s specifically meant to give people actual time off to REST, travel, spend time with family… or simply do absolutely nothing. 😂
Because let’s be honest… vacation shouldn’t be a luxury reserved for people whose jobs come with PTO.
Would you support a law guaranteeing paid vacation time?
If you’ve been hearing about ETIAS, the new travel authorization for visa exempt travelers visiting Europe, there’s an update: Europe has now 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡.
That means U.S. travelers do NOT need to apply for ETIAS right now, and there’s currently no application process open. Europe says it will announce the launch date several months before the system actually begins.
So if you have a European vacation coming up, you can cross “figure out ETIAS” off your to do list… for now. 😅
Of course, Europe is also dealing with the rollout of its new Entry/Exit System (EES), which has already caused long lines and delays at some airports. So there are still a few things travelers need to keep an eye on. 👀
As always, I’ll keep watching the changes so my clients know what they need before they head to Europe. 🌍✈️
⚠️ Heads up if you book last-minute flights on American Airlines… this change could cost you. ✈️💸
American Airlines has quietly tightened its 24-hour refund policy.
Previously, you could cancel within 24 hours of booking and get a full refund if your trip was at least 2 days away.
Now? Your flight must be at least 7 days away to qualify for that 24-hour refund window. If you’re booking within a week of departure, that safety net may no longer apply.
Travel Tip: If you’re making a last-minute booking, double-check the airline’s cancellation rules before you hit “Purchase.” Not every airline has the same policy, and one small detail could mean the difference between a full refund and a travel credit… or no refund at all. 👀
Thinking about skipping the Caribbean because it’s hurricane season? You might not have to. 👀☀️
Not every island faces the same level of storm risk.
Destinations in the southern Caribbean, like 𝐀𝐫𝐮𝐛𝐚, 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞, and 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐜̧𝐚𝐨, sit outside the main hurricane belt and are much less likely to be impacted by tropical storms. Other islands, like 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐬 and 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝 & 𝐓𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐨, also tend to experience fewer direct hits than many northern #Caribbean destinations.
That doesn’t mean they’re completely storm-proof, but they can be great options if you’re looking for some sunshine during hurricane season. 🌊
Travel tip: No matter where you’re headed, keep an eye on the forecast and consider purchasing travel insurance early. A little planning goes a long way.
Would you travel to the Caribbean during hurricane season if it meant fewer crowds and better prices? 🌴✈️
🌪️ If you’re traveling during hurricane or storm season, here’s one thing you don’t want to wait until the last minute to buy…
Travel insurance. ✈️
A lot of travelers think they can buy a policy once a storm is in the forecast. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way.
Once a storm is officially named, it’s generally considered a foreseeable event, and coverage for that specific storm may no longer be available under a new policy.
Whether you’re headed to the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida, or anywhere else during storm season, purchasing travel insurance early can help protect your trip investment if the unexpected happens.
Travel tip: Buy your travel insurance when you make your initial trip deposit, not when the weather forecast starts making headlines. 😉
